CHEESE TRAVELS: Pick & Cheese, Berlin

If - like us - you feel that experiencing regional cheeses is an essential component of any trip, then you’ll be excited by one of the latest restaurant launches in Berlin.
Having opened the world’s first cheese conveyor belt restaurant in 2019, when Pick & cheese London took its place at the heart of Seven Dials Market, cheese-centric restaurateur, Mathew Carver has now exported the concept to Germany.
Located inside the brand-new food hall concept, KERB Berlin at Potsdamer Platz, Pick & Cheese Berlin is Mathew’s first international opening, following huge success at home with his ground-breaking portfolio of restaurants. And while The Cheese Bar in Camden, The Cheese Barge in Paddington, Rind in North Yorkshire and Pick & Cheese London have all championed British cheese, the Berlin branch will showcase Germany’s small-scale artisan producers, sending them off on a 40-metre long conveyor belt, complete with playful pairings.
With 20 German cheeses to choose from – circulating the restaurant on plates colour-coded by price – you’ll find everything from Deichkäse by Backensholz paired with sauerkraut to Berliner Blau by Urstrom Käse served with rose Turkish delight. Various melted menu items are also available off the belt, and the restaurant’s exclusively German wine list is curated in collaboration with Edel & Faul.
“At Pick & Cheese in London”, says Mathew, “we’ve spent the last five years championing the very best of British cheese in a fun, informal, and accessible way. Now we’re bringing that same energy to Berlin — but this time, it’s all about German cheese and the incredible makers behind it.”
